Optomap (California)

 

What is amazing about the Optomap is that you can get a thorough assessment of what might be happening with your retinal health so quickly. Through this easy, painless experience, which simply has you looking through a tiny hole similar to a keyhole, we can get a broad picture of what is happening - which will help us better find out if you are at risk of (or already encountering) vision-related conditions. What’s more is that the imaging also offers us a glimpse into your overall health, so that we can potentially pick up conditions such as stroke risk and cardiovascular disease, among other concerns.

Sight threatening diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and others generally have no outward signs or symptoms in early stages. Therefore, in an effort to provide a more thorough eye exam, our practice has recently joined with other elite practices now performing comprehensive eye exams using the iVue® SD-OCT by Optovue.

Like an MRI of the eye, the iWellnessExam™ reveals ocular anatomy and signs of disease in exquisite detail. This breakthrough technology allows our doctors to examine with unprecedented clarity, a structure that is invisible using traditional methods. This unique technology can help detect potentially vision threatening, as well as systemic diseases in their very early stages, when they are most treatable.

 

As part of your pre-exam testing, our technician will perform the iWellnessExam which your doctor will review with you during your examination today. The $35 co-pay is typically not covered by your vision or medical insurance unless being used to actively follow disease. This charge will be added into the cost of your visit. Any questions you have about iWellnessExam and the results of the test can be discussed with the doctor during your examination.

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. In our continuing efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Rhinebeck Eye Care is proud to announce the inclusion of the iWellnessExam as an important part of our complete eye examination. Similar to an MRI or CT scan for the eye, the iWellnessExam uses spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to produce cross sectional images of the retinal layers – which is a sensitive area of the back of your eye – in a matter of seconds.

 

Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress without symptoms. In early stages, you may not even notice a change in your vision. But sight threatening conditions and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and others can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina, including the iWellnessExam.
